Her migratory process takes place as a natural event in her life. She falls in love with a Portuguese boy. She visits his country on holiday and decides to live out her passion by combining it with the opportunity to study in another country. The only problem she faces is the language, at an early stage.
Resilience strategies addressed by women
The strategies mobilized focus on learning to speak Portuguese. The communication in Portuguese with her boyfriend (who later became her husband) with whom she initially spoke in English, as well as with his family, the support of classmates in the provision of study materials, the translation of ideas and, clearly, all her willingness to learn, allowed her to quickly learn to speak and write in Portuguese.

She feels perfectly integrated in the host country.
The integration measures are mainly related to the social support network: her boyfriend/husband, his family, her mother and sister who remained in her country of origin, with whom she keeps in frequent contact, and the training institution itself
Personal story
She is 35 years old and Polish. At the age of 19, when she was attending the first year of higher education in her home country, she met, through colleagues, a Portuguese boy who was visiting her country under the Erasmus programme. They fell in love. He returned to his home country. In the summer holidays she came to visit him in the city where he was studying. She loved the city. She immediately decided to come and study in the same institution. She returned to her country, informed her mother, who supported her, and in less than a fortnight she returned to Portugal to apply for a course at the same institution where her boyfriend was studying. She had her mother's support in the affective and financial aspects. She feels that having come at that time was natural "I was 19 years old and in love". It was the right time for this adventure. She enrolled in the higher education course that interested her most: languages and international relations. The language was the biggest obstacle she felt in her integration, however the support of her boyfriend and classmates and her persistence (studying hard) meant that six months after her arrival she was able to speak and write in Portuguese. She still has her accent. In the third year of her degree, she conducted an internship in an international relations office. When she finished the course she was awarded the prize for best student and the opportunity arose to work in the office where she had taken her internship. She really likes what she does, she can't see herself doing anything else. She likes the team she works with. She married the love of her life and has a family in the host city. Her husband is not from this town and she is here because she has started a family. She can't see herself living anywhere else, although she loves travelling and getting to know other countries. She faces the decisions she has taken with naturalness: "I fell in love". She felt no barriers to her integration, except for the language in the initial phase. Her life choices are made on the basis of her family, especially her daughters. She likes to follow their school life and leisure activities. She has friends from Portugal and other countries. She likes the way of life of the city she has adopted, she likes living in a small town. She thinks that Portuguese people are always in a hurry and work beyond the established hours, which is not normal. In addition, she realizes that men in her host country do not do some domestic chores as naturally as those in her country of origin. She is in constant contact with her mother and other family residents in Poland. She visits them whenever possible. She insists that her daughters speak Portuguese and Polish. They have dual nationality. They celebrate the festivities of the host country and of the country of origin. She does not like the typical Portuguese cuisine.
Analysis of the initiative and individual story
The migratory project of this woman is related to wanting to live her love story conciliated with the opportunity and desire to study in another country.
The difficulties experienced were only related to the language. She never felt discriminated against for being from another country.
Results and Impact
This success story highlights the importance of personal effort in learning to speak and the support of her boyfriend/husband, her classmates and the group of people she has been working with.
The results of her success can be attributed to herself, her willingness to learn and to follow her heart.
